We’re on a mission to build AI that answers to the planet, not to Big Tech. That’s why we’re now running our AI almost entirely on a European model provider.
What this means
Partnering with European companies supports our mission for independent European tech that’s not subject to political whims. This shift to a European provider gives us a potential pathway to self-hosting our AI in the future.
It also means a lighter footprint – it’s a more energy-efficient model which uses far fewer resources than mainstream models. And we’re still producing more renewable energy than we need to run our AI.
It’s more private too. Your queries aren’t stored by third parties, even temporarily. Plus, EU privacy protections (some of the strictest in the world) apply to how your data is handled.
What changes for our users
You’ll notice a fresh new look and new features coming soon, like file upload, improved web sourcing and voice to text. There’s more in the pipeline too, like memory, and different mode options (including a ‘learning’ mode that will break down topics step by step, rather than simply delivering an answer).
Still optional, still not-for-profit
Our AI is 100% optional, like it has always been. Turn off Overviews anytime. And it’s still not-for-profit – we don’t serve shareholders, instead 100% of our profits go to the climate.
