Saydou Kalaga is one of Ecosia’s oldest friends. We spoke to him in Burkina Faso about the importance of reforesting the desert. Saydou leads our partner organisation Hommes et Terre in the Sahel, Burkina Faso. Here, the soil is infertile and the landscape badly deforested, but thanks to your searches, there’s hope.
Each year, entire villages come together to dig seedbeds in half-moon formations. This helps to collect rainwater and allows seeds to sprout. Now, the degraded landscape is slowly turning green, and local communities can start farming again. Thanks to your searches and Saydou’s work, we can stop the desert from moving further south.
