The world’s most biodiverse savanna is vanishing, so we’re restoring it

The Cerrado in Brazil is the most biodiverse savanna on the planet — home to around 5% of all plant and animal species. Yet most people have never heard of it.

In just the past 50 years, more than half of the Cerrado has been cleared for large-scale soy production — most of it used as feed for cattle — leaving fragmented nature patches scattered among thousands of farms. Without action, this vital ecosystem, which also feeds the springs and rivers that sustain the Amazon, could collapse.

Ecosia has already planted over 2 million trees in the Cerrado. Now, together with Planet Wild and the Black Jaguar Foundation, we’re taking it further: collaborating with local farmers and communities we’re reconnecting isolated nature fragments to help create a 1 million hectare biodiversity corridor stretching 2,600 km.
