Gamers (and non-gamers) rejoice!
At Ecosia, we envision a world where taking climate action is easy — something that can be done every day. Planting trees through your searches is one such example. Now you can also plant trees when you play video games.
This year, we’re teaming up with Niantic to plant trees through Niantic’s monthly Community Days. Community Days are live, in-person events where players from all of Niantic’s games come together to play at specified locations. Between April and July 2022, we’ll plant a tree for every 5 kilometers walked by a player on Niantic Community Day, with a goal of reaching 100,000 trees each month. We’re kicking it off with this month’s Community Day on April 23rd.
This means that if you’re a Pokémon Go, Ingress, or Pikmin Bloom player, you may be able to plant trees with Ecosia just by playing outside. In April, Niantic Community Days will be held in 65 cities, spanning 4 continents around the world. You can check here to see if there is an event happening near you.
Spending time outside is pretty awesome. Planting trees while you’re outside is even better. And if you happen to grow a Pikmin or stumble across a stray Pikachu while you’re at it, then who are we to complain?
We’re excited to plant some trees together, and look forward to seeing you outside over the next few months. Happy trails!
