Ecosia's 2024 roundup

Before we close out the year, let’s take some time to celebrate the positive changes that were made possible by your searches in 2024!

Restoring our world’s forests

We planted 13 million trees together this year, protecting biodiversity in 38 different countries. To put that number into perspective, it means we restored 52,000 hectares—enough to cover 72,829 football fields!

New locations, partners and tree species

Ecosia trees are now growing in 18,000 new sites, with three new countries added to our list: Togo, Vietnam, and the Netherlands.

We planted and protected 1,600 tree species, 180 of which were new species—such as the Bat’s Wing Coral Tree in Australia, the Jaboticaba Sabará in Brazil and the Eyikou in Togo.

Paving the way for biodiversity

Two of our reforestation projects became the world's first to receive a biodiversity certification: SICIREC in Bolivia and the Jane Goodall Institute in Uganda. By focusing on meaningful outcomes for people and nature, we can inspire donors and investors to back projects that are genuinely restoring ecosystems and supporting communities.

Investing back into the planet

We used our profits to fund new green investments:

  • Protecting an old-growth forest in Canada’s Northwestern Temperate Rainforests (with Wilderness International)
  • Re-wetting drained moors to restore their ability to store carbon dioxide, regulate water balance, and support biodiversity in Zukunft Moor

Giving you more ways to have an impact

On Earth Day this year, we launched our Ecosia desktop browser, which lets you generate clean energy and fund climate action projects simply by browsing and searching.

And, as always, we spent 100% of our profits on the planet!

Thank you for bringing about real change. Here’s to more climate action in 2025!
